Wasps centre Chris Bell announces retirement from rugby

A shoulder injury forces Wasps centre Chris Bell to retire from rugby with immediate effect.

Wasps centre Chris Bell has retired from rugby with immediate effect due to a shoulder injury.

The 32-year-old has made nearly 190 league appearances during his career.

Bell signed a contract extension at the Ricoh Arena at the start of the year, but he has now been forced to hang up his boots.

"At this stage I'm not sure what the future holds," he is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News. "While it's slightly daunting and a change to professional sport, I look forward to the new challenge ahead."

Bell began his rugby career at Harlequins before spells with Yorkshire Carnegie, Sale Sharks and Wasps.
