Stuart Lancaster "hugely proud" of England

England head coach Stuart Lancaster insists that he is "hugely proud" of the team's Six Nations performance, despite the side missing out on the title to Ireland.

Stuart Lancaster has insisted that he is "hugely proud" of his England side, despite the team narrowly missing out on the Six Nations title.

The Red Rose needed a 26-point win over France in the last match of the competition to move above Ireland in the final standings, but their 55-35 win left them in second.

The head coach told BBC Sport: "Credit to Ireland, they beat us away from home, so congratulations to Joe [Schmidt, Ireland coach] and his team.

"We're sat here disappointed but we've just put 55 points on France and scored seven tries in the process.

"I'm hugely proud of what that England team has shown today and throughout the Championship."

England have finished second in every edition of the Six Nations since Lancaster took charge.
