New England head coach Eddie Jones will not change RFU's overseas rule

New England head coach Eddie Jones says that he will not change the RFU's rule about the non-selection of overseas-based players.

New England head coach Eddie Jones has claimed that he will not change the rule stating that English players cannot be picked unless they play domestic rugby on home soil.

The Rugby Football Union's policy has so far prevented a number of players, including Steffon Armitage, from representing England as they play league rugby in France.

Jones, who was appointed England coach on Friday morning, replacing Stuart Lancaster, has no plans to alter the rule.

"The only thing I know is that I want players who want to play for England and if you want to play for England you play in the Premiership," ITV Sport quotes Jones as saying. "That's the rule and that's going to stay, and we can work with that."

Jones's first game in charge will be England's Six Nations opener against Scotland at Murrayfield on February 6.
