Jamie Peacock escapes ban for punching

Leeds Rhinos prop Jamie Peacock avoids a ban, having been found guilty of punching during his side's Challenge Cup win over Leigh Centurions on Friday.

Leeds Rhinos prop Jamie Peacock has escaped a suspension having been found guilty of punching during his side's Challenge Cup win over Leigh Centurions last Friday.

Peacock was sin-binned during the quarter-final encounter after clashing with Leigh forward Matt Sarsfield.

The former England captain admitted the offence in front of a Rugby Football League disciplinary panel, who spared him a ban having taken factors such as "significant provocation" and previous disciplinary record into account.

Peacock was hit with a £300 fine for the offence, but the lack of a suspension means that he is free to take on the Huddersfield Giants in the Super League on Thursday.

Sarsfield, meanwhile, escaped any further punishment after the panel decided that the yellow card was sufficient due to the fact that he had not thrown any punches.

Leeds struck late to eventually win the match 25-12, setting up a semi-final showdown with Warrington Wolves in August.
