Eddie Ahern banned for 10 years

Jockey Eddie Ahern is given a 10-year ban by the BHA after being found guilty of corruption.

Jockey Eddie Ahern has been banned for 10 years by the British Horseracing Authority after being found guilty of breaching anti-corruption rules.

Meanwhile, owner Neil Clement has been handed a 15-year suspension on top of a £30,000 fine.

Ahern, 35, has been punished for breaking rules in five of his races between September 2010 and March 2011.

The rider is also guilty of "communicating inside information for reward", while former West Bromwich Albion defender Clement was found "placing a lay bet on a horse which he then owned".

Ahern's solicitor Christopher Stewart-Moore told PA Sport: "Eddie Ahern is absolutely devastated by the BHA Panel's findings. He did not breach the rules of racing as found by the panel or at all and he will be appealing both the findings as well as the very harsh penalties imposed on him."

Clement retired from football in 2010 after starting his professional career in 1996 with Chelsea.
