A Sunderland supporter has been released on bail by police after allegedly racially abusing West Bromwich Albion striker Romelu Lukaku.

Liam Jones was taken in by the authorities after he was spotted making a monkey gesture during the Baggies' 4-2 win over the Black Cats last weekend.

The 21-year-old made the gesture after Lukaku, who is on loan at The Hawthorns from Chelsea, found the back of the net for the away side.

Jones was caught by cameras at the match, which alerted the police to take action.
