Benni McCarthy robbed at gunpoint in Johannesburg

Former Blackburn Rovers and West Ham United striker Benni McCarthy has a gun pointed at his face during a raid on a barber shop in Johannesburg.

Former South Africa striker Benni McCarthy has been robbed at gunpoint at a barber shop, according to his agent.

The 27-year-old is said to have been targeted in the Johannesburg shop, where armed men stole jewellery from him.

McCarthy, who won the Champions League at Porto in 2004 before moving on to Blackburn Rovers and West Ham United, had a gun pointed at his face, with one man demanding his watch, earrings and wedding ring.

McCarthy was not hurt in the attack, his representative Percy Adams later confirmed to South Africa's Eyewitness News, while no other customers were targeted.

South Africa goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa was murdered in a house robbery near Johannesburg last year.
