UK Sport increase funding

UK Sport confirm that they will put an extra 11% worth of funding into Olympic and Paralympic sports.

UK Sport have announced that they will provide £347m to Olympic and Paralympic sports ahead of the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

That figure means that the organisation have increased their financial input by 11%.

"We want to be the first nation in recent history to be more successful in the Olympics and Paralympics post hosting," said UK Sport's chief executive Liz Nicholl.

"We are going to be investing a record level for funding over the next four years. In this cycle we will invest £347m in Olympic and Paralympic success in 2016."

Rowing was the biggest winner, seeing a rise of £5m.

UK Sport funding breakdown: athletics £26.8m, sailing £24.5m, swimming £21.4m, canoeing £19.1m, equestrian £17.9m, hockey £15.5m, gymnastics £14.5m, boxing £13.8m, diving £7.5m, modern pentathlon £6.9m, taekwondo £6.9m, judo £6.8m, badminton £5.9m, triathlon £5.5m.
