Paralympic champion Oscar Pistorius to undergo 30 days in psychiatric testing

A High Court judge orders Oscar Pistorius to spend 30 days in psychiatric testing, which will delay his murder trial in Pretoria, South Africa.

Paralympic champion Oscar Pistorius has been ordered to spend 30 days in psychiatric testing, which will delay his murder trial at the High Court in Pretoria, South Africa.

Prosecutor Gerrie Nel put forward the application of further assessment of the double amputee's mental health following the testimony of Dr Merryl Vorster.

Dr Vorster told the court on Monday that Pistorius has been suffering from an anxiety disorder since childhood.

Judge Thokozile Masipa announced today that Pistorius will undergo psychiatric testing for 30 days, with a final order to be made on Tuesday next week.

Pistorius is accused of murdering his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, whom he shot dead through a bathroom door at his home in Pretoria on Valentine's Day last year.

The 27-year-old denies murder by maintaining that he mistook the South African model for an intruder when he fired four gunshots.
