Carl Froch left girlfriend in labour to train for Mikkel Kessler fight

IBF super-middleweight champion Carl Froch reveals that he had to race home from the gym in order to be at the birth of his daughter.

Carl Froch has revealed that he left his girlfriend at home in labour to attend a gym session in preparation for his fight against Mikkel Kessler.

The couple's second child, Natalia, was born earlier this month.

The 35-year-old told The Sun: "Rachael went into labour early in the morning but I said 'look, I've got a 14-round spar lined up, I've got three kids coming in and I need to do this spar so I'm going to Sheffield at 10 and I'll see you about four or five. If you have the baby, you have the baby, let's hope you don't and I'll see you soon.

"She lost her mind a bit as she didn't want me to go but out the door I went anyway. I thought if I go to the hospital with her now, I'm going to sit all day, potentially all night, miss a sparring session so just said 'Look, I'm going'.

"I jumped in my motor, shot down the M1 and I got to there for 5.30 and Natalia was born at seven so happy days! I picked her up the next day and I've just been cracking on with my training and focusing on what I'm going to do to the Viking Warrior, as he calls himself."

Froch takes on Kessler this weekend.
