Olympic gold medallist Jessica Ennis has insisted that she would "love" to be named the BBC's Sports Personality of the Year.

The 26-year-old is one of 12 nominees shortlisted for the award, which will be given to the winner on Sunday.

"I'd love to win it," the Daily Star quotes Ennis as saying. "But as an athlete all that matters is that gold medal."

Olympic champion and Tour de France winner Bradley Wiggins is the current favourite to pick up the honour.
