British champion boxers Stephen and Liam Smith have been arrested following an allegation of assault.
The brothers were celebrating Liam's birthday and the successful defence of his title in Liverpool at the weekend when they are alleged to have been involved in a fight outside nightclub Superstar Boudoir.
A police spokesman said: "Emergency services attended and found a 29-year-old man with serious injuries to his face lying on nearby Victoria Street.
"He was taken to hospital where his condition is described as serious but not life-threatening.
"Following a search of the area, three men aged 22, 26 and 29 were arrested on suspicion of assault. All three men have been taken to a police station where they are being questioned by officers."
The brothers were later released on bail while enquiries continue.
