Manchester United's Wayne Rooney named NSPCC's first childhood ambassador

Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney is named the NSPCC's first ambassador for childhood as he bids to help the charity tackle child abuse.

Manchester United and England captain Wayne Rooney has been named as the NSPCC's first ambassador for childhood.

The 29-year-old, who has two young sons, has teamed up with the child protection organisation to help tackle abuse.

"Being a dad of two young boys changes your perspective on everything," said Rooney via NSPCC's official website. "You never stop learning as a parent. It can be tough, and some parents need that bit of extra support.

"I hope that knowing I'm supporting the NSPCC will help give abused youngsters the confidence and courage to seek the help they deserve."

Rooney and his wife Coleen are expecting their third child in January.
