Ashley Cole's mother claims that she did not write any posts alluding to Rio Ferdinand getting hit in the forehead by a coin thrown from the crowd during the Manchester derby on Sunday.

Ashley Cole's mother has denied taunting Rio Ferdinand after he was hit by a coin during the Manchester derby at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

The Manchester United defender suffered a cut on his forehead after a coin thrown from the crowd hit him in the closing stages of their 3-2 victory over Manchester City.

Cole's brother Matty reportedly wrote on his Facebook page on Sunday that he was "happy" that Ferdinand "got hit in the face".

The Chelsea left-back's mother, Sue, posted a comment on the same thread an hour later saying: "Bloody missed that, ha ha ha. Give the fan that threw it a medal!!!"

"Rio in audience at x factor, wonder if he can see?????" Sue later added.

However, the 56-year-old has denied posting those messages on Facebook.

"Who has put that on?" The Mirror quotes her as saying. "I don't know who has done that. It wasn't me."

Sue also added that the jibes made about the incident are "disgusting".
