German chancellor Angela Merkel joins World Cup dressing room celebrations

German chancellor Angela Merkel celebrates with her nation's World Cup heroes in the team dressing room following their victory over Argentina.

Germany's football stars welcomed chancellor Angela Merkel into their dressing room at the Maracana in Brazil after winning the World Cup.

Joachim Low's side earned their fourth tournament trophy after Mario Gotze found the back of the net in extra time to seal a 1-0 victory over Argentina.

While celebrating their triumph, the players happily posed for photographs with Merkel and president Joachim Gauck.

Lukas Podolski and Sami Khedira were among those to snap selfies with the chancellor, who personally congratulated the players in their dressing room after they opened their World Cup campaign with a 4-0 win over Portugal last month.
