Fenerbahce vice-president: 'Bus attackers tried to kill our players'

Trabzon governor Abdil Celil Oz confirms that the team bus carrying Fenerbahce players came under armed attack as they were travelling to the airport.

Fenerbahce vice-president Mahmut Uslu has accused the perpetrators of Saturday night's bus attack of trying to "kill the players" on board.

Footage emerged overnight showing the wreckage, after the coach carrying the Turkish club's players and staff reportedly came under repeated attack from a shotgun.

The driver was said to have been hit in the face and taken to hospital, although it is not known if any others suffered injuries.

Fenerbache were travelling to the airport following their 5-1 victory over Black Sea side Caykur Rizespor in the Super Lig.

Trabzon governor Abdil Celil Oz confirmed the gun attack on the bus, before revealing that the driver's life was not in danger.

"At first we thought stones had been thrown at the bus but forensic investigators at the scene have concluded it was an armed attack," he is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News.

The Turkish Football Federation later released a statement condemning the attack.
