Phil Mickelson: 'USA played some great golf'

Phil Mickelson admits that USA played "some great golf" in order to secure a 17-11 win over Europe to win the Ryder Cup.

Phil Mickelson has admitted that it had been "really fun" to be a part of USA's successful Ryder Cup team as they reclaimed the trophy from Europe.

In Sunday's singles, the veteran left-hander played out an all-time classic with Sergio Garcia as the pair recorded 19 birdies between them in a match that was halved, but Mickelson was quick to pay credit to the entire USA team as they ran out 17-11 winners at Hazeltine.

The 46-year-old told Sky Sports News: "There was a lot of good golf out there. Sergio played some great golf, not just today but all week. We really had a fun match and we needed a while to calm because you don't really appreciate all that is happening around us.

"To see the way our guys fought, the way Patrick led us out there, Rickie came out and won his match and the way that the guys in the last six groups were doing so well. It was really fun to be a part of this team. We've played some great golf."

Mickelson has now competed in 11 Ryder Cups.
