Rory McIlroy ends Masters on level par

Rory McIlroy shoots a final round of 69 at Augusta to end this year's Masters on level par.

Rory McIlroy shot a 69 in his final round at Augusta to finish this year's Masters on level par.

The two-time major winner went into the day well off the pace, having shot a costly round of 77 on day two, sandwiched between two rounds of 71.

He began the day with three pars on the opening three holes before a bogey on the fourth all but ended any hopes of a late push towards the top of the leaderboard.

However, he hit three straight birdies at the end of the front nine and another on the 11th to put him on course for a sub-70 round for the first time in this year's tournament.

Two bogeys on back-nine par fives were cancelled by alternate birdies, before he finished the round with back-to-back pars to go into the clubhouse joint ninth on the leaderboard.
