Gary Player says that Muirfield is one of the best courses around ahead of the Open Championship this week.

Gary Player has said that Muirfield is one of the 'greatest' golf courses in the world ahead of the Open Championship.

The three-time Open champion believes that the course in Scotland is one of the best to host the tournament, which begins on Thursday.

"The design is highly intelligent," Player told BBC Sport. "It has got more variety of shots than any course I know. The rough is good and the bunkering is absolutely exquisite."

Meanwhile, Phil Mickelson will head into the tournament on the back of a victory in the Scottish Open.
