Sauber disappointed with Giedo van der Garde decision

Sauber may be forced to field Giedo van der Garde this season after he won a court case in Australia.

Giedo van der Garde has the right to race for Sauber this season, an Australian court has ruled.

The Dutchman said that he was offered a race seat by the team last season, but they later hired Marcus Ericsson and Felipe Nasr instead.

Sauber say that Van Der Garde is physically too big to compete in the sport, and team principal Monisha Kaltenborn has maintained that there is no future for him with the team.

She told reporters: "We are disappointed with this decision and now need to take time to understand what it means and the impact it will have on the start of our season.

"What we cannot do is jeopardise the safety of our team, or any other driver on the track, by having an unprepared driver in a car that has now been tailored to two other assigned drivers."

Van der Garde drove for Caterham in 2013.
