Robbie Keane set for shock Wolverhampton Wanderers return?

Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly considering a shock move to bring Robbie Keane back to the club this month.

Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly considering a shock move to bring Robbie Keane back to Molineux.

The 37-year-old began his career with the Midlands outfit, leaving the club in 1999 and going on to enjoy spells with the likes of Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Inter Milan.

Keane was linked with a return to Wolves over the summer following his departure from Los Angeles Galaxy but he instead penned a deal to work under former teammate Teddy Sheringham at Indian Super League side ATK, where he is contracted until March.

According to The Mirror, the Irishman could secure an early release from his Indian deal in order to join the Championship side, who hold an impressive 12-point lead at the top of the table, for what they hope will be a promotion-securing second half of the campaign.

The newspaper claims that Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo has been monitoring Keane's progress "closely" and "believes his experience will help Wolves get over the line and return to the top flight".

Wolves have already completed their first piece of January transfer business, bringing in Valencia whizzkid Rafa Mir on a four-and-a-half-year deal.
