Wigan Athletic midfielder Chris McCann suffers fractured kneecap, out for season

Wigan Athletic midfielder Chris McCann will miss the rest of the season with a multiple fracture of his right kneecap.

Wigan Athletic's Chris McCann will miss the rest of the season with a multiple fracture of his right kneecap, the Latics have confirmed.

The 26-year-old midfielder suffered the injury in a collision with Manchester City's Micah Richards during their FA Cup quarter-final at the Etihad on Sunday.

It leaves Wigan a little short in central midfield after the leg break that Ben Watson suffered last month.

"It's a massive blow for us and for Chris, especially coming so soon after the injury to Ben Watson," Wigan manager Uwe Rosler told the club website.

"We will do everything we can to make sure Chris gets back to action as quickly as possible and in the best physical condition he can be."

After joining Wigan from Burnley back in June, McCann has made 39 appearances for the Latics, scoring three goals.
