The home side took an early lead inside of two minutes when Matt Jarvis saw his shot deflect into the path of Ravel Morrison, who finished past the keeper from close range.

Jarvis doubled their lead minutes later when his deflected shot squeezed past goalkeeper Joe Lewis.

West Ham soon came close to adding a third through Ricardo Vaz Te who saw his effort pushed round the post by Lewis.

Craig Noone pulled a goal back for the visitors a minute before the break when he cut inside and fired past Adrian.

Cardiff drew level in the 76th minute when Peter Odemwingie tapped home a pass from Jordon Mutch.

Ricardo Vaz Te won the game for the hosts two minutes from the end when he headed in a cross from Jack Collison.
