Pepe Mel has no regrets over taking up West Bromwich Albion position

Pepe Mel insists that he does not regret accepting the head coach role at West Bromwich Albion, despite the possibility of relegation.

Pepe Mel has insisted that he has no regrets about taking on the position of head coach at West Bromwich Albion.

The Baggies have not won a game since the 51-year-old took over at The Hawthorns in January, and linger just one place above the relegation zone on goal difference alone.

Mel has also had to deal with the controversy surrounding striker Nicolas Anelka, who received a five-match ban for making an alleged anti-semitic 'quenelle' gesture.

According to Sky Sports News, when asked if he had any regrets about taking the job, Mel said: "No, I knew it wasn't going to be easy.

"Alongside the situation with Anelka, the injuries and, of course, the results, there is also the fact that it is a new country with a new language and culture, but, for me, it was an opportunity and a really exciting one.

"I'm a very well recognised head coach in Spain, but here I have to earn the right to be respected. This is what I am trying to do and the only way I know is through hard work."

West Brom will take on Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday.
