Jamie Carragher: 'I'll miss working with Gary Neville'

Jamie Carragher admits that he will "miss" working with Gary Neville on Sky Sports after the former Manchester United captain became Valencia head coach.

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has admitted that he will "miss" working with Gary Neville on Sky Sports.

The ex-Manchester United captain was announced as Valencia's new head coach on Wednesday.

Neville and Carragher had a fierce rivalry on the pitch, but both teamed up on Sky's Monday Night Football when the former Liverpool player joined the broadcaster in 2013.

Shortly after the news of Neville's career change came to light, Carragher joked that it reminded him of when Pegguy Arphexad left Liverpool for Coventry City.

In his column for the Daily Mail, Carragher wrote: "So Mondays will not be the same for the next six months. I knew Gary Neville would become a manager one day but the timing has come as a shock. And to think we had just started getting along!

"As a player, Gary was someone I loved to hate. For Liverpool fans, he was Public Enemy No 1, the embodiment of Manchester United, but, privately, I have always had nothing but the utmost respect for him. His passion, his will to win and determination were traits I recognised in myself.

"There is no question I will miss him and I'll particularly miss the heated debates of a Monday morning when we are making decisions about which clips to show, not to mention the frequent jibes that fly around when the cameras are rolling."

Neville will juggle his new job with his coaching role at England.
