Uruguay seal World Cup spot

Uruguay become the 32nd and final side to qualify for the 2014 World Cup 5-0 on aggregate over Jordan, despite being held to a goalless draw in Montevideo tonight.

Uruguay have become the final team to book their place in next summer's World Cup finals tonight, despite being held to a goalless draw by Jordan in Montevideo.

The hosts carried a commanding 5-0 lead into the second leg of their World Cup playoff, quickly taking control of the match despite failing to extend their advantage.

Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani were at the heart of their early efforts, but neither man was able to break down a spirited Jordan rearguard.

Jordan had the woodwork to thank for parity on the night just before the break, with Diego Godin's header from close range clattering back off the crossbar.

Oscar Tabarez introduced Gaston Ramirez and Diego Forlan with more than 30 minutes to play, but Jordan's persistence in their own half continually broke up play.

Cavani spurned another late chance but when the final whistle came soon after both sides were happy, with Jordan earning a credible stalemate away from home while Uruguay look forward to next summer's festival of football on their own continent.
