Connor Wickham: 'We deserved to beat Manchester City'

Connor Wickham believes that Sunderland deserved to beat Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night.

Connor Wickham has insisted that Sunderland deserved to beat Manchester City on Wednesday night following a dramatic 2-2 draw at the Etihad Stadium.

Samir Nasri's late goal saved a point for City to deny the visitors an important victory, but Wickham believes that the Black Cats are right to feel aggrieved by the result.

"To concede early wasn't ideal but we pulled ourselves back and I do think we were unlucky to not take three points," the 21-year-old, who scored both of Sunderland's goals, told Sky Sports News.

"It's one of the most difficult places to come in the Premiership against such a good team.

"The boys are feeling it inside but we can take positives from today and take it into Saturday."

Sunderland remain bottom of the Premier League following the draw.
