Sam Allardyce hopes to prove Dick Advocaat wrong at Sunderland

Sam Allardyce says that he needs to prove to Dick Advocaat that the Sunderland squad is good enough to retain their status in the Premier League.

Sam Allardyce is hopeful that he can prove Dick Advocaat wrong after his Sunderland predecessor claimed that the current squad is not good enough.

Advocaat made the claims after resigning from his position earlier this month after just eight Premier League games.

Eight players were recruited in the summer transfer window, and Allardyce, who was appointed Black Cats boss last Friday, is determined to get the best out of them.

"Dick is a very experienced man and has worked with the players," The Mirror quotes Allardyce as saying. "That's his opinion. I have got to be the man who comes in and at some point down the line is able to say, 'Dick, you were wrong'.

"I hope I am not saying, 'Dick, you were right' that's for sure. If that happens I have made a bad decision, haven't I?"

Allardyce's first game in charge will be against West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns on Saturday.
