Sam Allardyce hails "world-class" Fabio Borini strike

Sam Allardyce describes Fabio Borini's goal against Crystal Palace as "world class", but admits that he is frustrated to have only taken a point from the game.

Sunderland boss Sam Allardyce has hailed the late impact made by substitute Fabio Borini to earn his side a 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace.

The Italian forward came off the bench to fire home a crucial leveller in the 90th minute, picking out the far corner of the net from a tight angle on the edge of the box.

Despite seeing Sunderland temporarily pull themselves out of the drop zone, Allardyce was unhappy that Borini's goal was ultimately only worth a point in the grand scheme of things.

"It was world class - absolutely out of the top drawer of goals you can score," he told BBC Sport. "It was in the back of the net before the goalkeeper could begin to move.

"Pace, power, accuracy. That should have been the winner though. Our frailties have come to light again and it's saved us from defeat, not won us the game."

Next up for Sunderland, who are now level on points with rivals Newcastle United, is a trip to the south coast to take on Southampton next weekend.
