The 23-year-old has suffered a serious knee injury.

St Johnstone have been dealt a major blow after it was confirmed winger Drey Wright will miss the rest of the season with a serious knee injury.

The 23-year-old has been a key figure for Tommy Wright's team since signing from Colchester in the summer.

He was part of the side which equalled the club's record of five top flight victories in a row before Saturday's goalless draw with Kilmarnock.

However, Wright lasted just 66 minutes against the Rugby Park outfit before limping off and Saints have been dealt the bad news that the initial prognosis has proved to be worse than first feared.

Speaking to the club's official website, manager Wright has confirmed his namesake will now be absent for the remainder of the campaign with a damaged Anterior cruciate ligament.

"Unfortunately, it's hugely disappointing news," the Northern Irishman said.

"The injury swelled up over the past 48 hours and a scan has revealed a damaged ACL which will require an operation and will result in Drey missing the remainder of the campaign.

"Of course, the important thing is that he receives the best treatment available to get him back as soon as possible but there's no doubt that it is hugely disappointing news for the player and the club.

"He's made a real impact since joining us and he's a player who has excited the supporters but as is the case in football we just have to deal with it and help him come back fitter and stronger."
