Tottenham Hotspur could have signed Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish for just £6m in July 2018, according to a report.

Tottenham Hotspur reportedly had the opportunity to sign Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish for just £6m in the summer of 2018.

The 24-year-old has been in excellent form for Villa during the 2019-20 campaign, contributing nine goals and seven assists in 27 appearances in all competitions.

Manchester United are thought to be determined to secure the Englishman's services during this summer's transfer window in a deal that could reach £80m.

However, according to The Sun, Tottenham could have signed the attacking midfielder for just £6m 18 months ago when Villa were willing to sell for a cut-price fee due to their financial problems.

The report claims that Spurs were only willing to pay £4m at the time but ultimately missed out on a deal when Villa were purchased by their new owners.

Grealish has allegedly told close friends that he wants to move to Old Trafford at the end of the season despite suggestions that Manchester City are also interested.
