Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing of Timo Werner on loan from RB Leipzig for the remainder of the season.

The deal contains an option for Tottenham to make the move permanent at the end of the campaign.

The 27-year-old arrives in North London having fallen down the pecking order at Leipzig this term, making just eight Bundesliga appearances, with only two of those coming from the start.

Across all competitions, the forward has two goals in 14 outings in 2023-24.

Werner will now spend the rest of the season on loan at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, where he will wear the number 16 shirt and look to help Ange Postecoglou's side push for a top-four finish in the Premier League.

The Germany international has previous experience playing in England, having spent two years at Tottenham's London rivals Chelsea from 2020 to 2022.

During his time at Stamford Bridge, Werner scored 23 goals in 89 appearances and helped Chelsea to win the Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup.

The forward also won the DFB-Pokal and DFL-Supercup at Leipzig last season, where he has scored 113 goals in 213 outings over two spells.

At international level, Werner boasts 24 goals in 57 games for Germany, helping his country to win the Confederations Cup in 2017.

Manchester United had also been credited with an interest in Werner this month, but Spurs have now won the race for his signature, making him their first signing of the January window.

Postecoglou's men are also thought to be closing in on the signing of Radu Dragusin, despite rival interest from Bayern Munich and Napoli.

Tottenham currently sit fifth in the Premier League table, one point outside the Champions League places and six adrift of leaders Liverpool.

Werner could make his debut for his new side when they visit Manchester United on Sunday.
