Manchester City hammer Tottenham Hotspur

Manchester City thrash Tottenham Hotspur 6-0 in their Premier League meeting at the Etihad Stadium.

Manchester City have beaten Tottenham Hotspur 6-0 in their Premier League match at the Etihad Stadium.

The home side made the perfect start and took the lead within 14 seconds. Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris made a mess of his clearance, kicking the ball straight to Sergio Aguero. The Argentine's shot was saved by Lloris, but Jesus Navas was on hand to fire in the rebound.

Spurs almost levelled the scores within minutes, when Martin Demichelis cleared Erik Lamela's close-range effort off the line.

Aguero then came close to scoring his second of the afternoon when he was played in on goal by Alvaro Negredo, but Lloris was out quickly to make the save.

City continued to dominate and in the 34th minute of the match they doubled their lead. Aguero was denied by Lloris, with the ball falling kindly to Negredo. His shot was blocked on the line by Younes Kaboul, but the attempted clearance hit Sandro and ended up in the back of the net.

The home side soon made it three before the break. Pablo Zabaleta played in Navas down the right hand side and he delivered a precise ball into the middle that Aguero guided into the bottom corner.

It took City less than five minutes of the second half to increase their lead. Yaya Toure burst through the Spurs defence, before playing the ball across the box to Aguero to slot in his second of the afternoon.

Samir Nasri almost found the net with a chipped effort that beat Lloris and came crashing off the bar, before Negredo scored their fifth goal of the afternoon. The Spaniard turned Michael Dawson on the edge of the box, before lashing a strike past Lloris.

City continued to create chances, with Negredo heading over from a Navas cross and Toure firing an effort from the edge of the area off target.

In the final minute of the match, Navas made it 6-0 to the home side. He was played through on goal by James Milner and kept his composure to slot the ball past the keeper.
