Andros Townsend excited by England potential

Tottenham Hotspur winger Andros Townsend believes that the optimism is justified as England prepare for Euro 2016 and beyond.

Andros Townsend has claimed that there is plenty of optimism surrounding the current England squad.

The Tottenham Hotspur winger has returned to the squad this season after missing last summer's World Cup with an ankle injury, and he believes that the younger players involved in Roy Hodgson's plans are proof that success can be achieved over the next few years.

"We are building beyond 2014 and hopefully this team will peak at the Euros in France or in Russia two years later," he told the Daily Star. "We're unbeaten since the World Cup and I have played some part in that. I've played two England games and scored two goals.

"We are seeing the next future of England now. The potential is massive.

"A lot of players in the squad now I have come through the ranks with, so that makes you feel more comfortable."

England meet the Republic of Ireland on Sunday before taking on Slovenia in a Euro 2016 qualifier a week later.
