Belgium head coach Roberto Martinez is reportedly in talks with Tottenham Hotspur over the vacant managerial role in North London, as he seeks a return to club football.

Belgium head coach Roberto Martinez has reportedly held talks with Tottenham Hotspur over the vacant managerial role in North London.

Martinez has guided the Belgium national team to top spot in the FIFA world rankings and will manage the side at this summer's European Championships, but is reported to have said that he is keen on a return to club football next season.

Many managers have been shortlisted by Daniel Levy - Brighton & Hove Albion's Graham Potter and Leicester City's Brendan Rodgers amongst others - after Ryan Mason was given the interim duty of managing the side when the club parted company with Jose Mourinho in April.

Sky Sports News reports that Martinez has joined the list of potential candidates for the Lilywhites, after he was also linked to rivals Arsenal before Mikel Arteta's appointment in 2019.

There is doubt over the future of talisman Harry Kane and the new manager's first job may be to replace the three-time Golden Boot winner.

Martinez has a lot of experience managing in the Premier League after arriving at Wigan in 2009 and leaving Everton in 2016.
