Clive Allen backs Harry Kane for England

Clive Allen backs Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane to force his way into the senior England setup.

Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Clive Allen has backed current Spurs forward Harry Kane to break into the senior England squad.

Kane was not included in Roy Hodgson's 22-man party for the upcoming internationals against Norway and Switzerland, but was named in the Three Lions Under-21 setup.

Asked whether he could force his way into Hodgson's plans, Allen told talkSPORT: "He could. He's a goalscoring talent. What he loves to do is score goals.

"He likes to get in the right positions and he works tirelessly. He's got a great attitude. I did a lot of work with him at Spurs and just spending time talking to him you knew he had a big desire to succeed in the game.

"He's not the quickest, so he's not blessed with exceptional speed but he will always take up good positions. He's got good feet and he can find the back of the net."

Allen also pointed out Kane's resilience after he scored in Tottenham's 3-0 win over AEL Limassol in the Europa League on Thursday, having missed an earlier penalty.

"He's a young lad who missed a penalty but then he steps up and finds another opportunity not too long after that and he fires it in the back of the net. That shows great character and a strong attitude of mind."

Allen scored 60 goals in 105 appearances for Spurs between 1984-88.
