Mauricio Pochettino: '5-3 Chelsea win will not influence League Cup final'

Mauricio Pochettino plays down the significance of Spurs' 5-3 win over Chelsea after his side booked a Wembley date with the Blues in the Capital One Cup final.

Mauricio Pochettino has said that Tottenham Hotspur's 5-3 win over Chelsea earlier this month will have no bearing on what happens when they meet again in the League Cup final.

Spurs booked a meeting with the Premier League leaders at Wembley on March 1 by beating Sheffield United 3-2 on aggregate on Wednesday night.

Pochettino's side ushered in 2015 with an emphatic victory over the Blues on New Year's Day, but the Argentine says that victory does not give his troops an edge over Jose Mourinho and co.

"Every game is different. Tonight we needed to ensure that we can play the final," he told Sky Sports News.

"Before, [the New Year's Day fixture], we were focusing on different competitions.

"Maybe we will prepare the week before for the final but it will be a tough game because Chelsea are one of the best teams in the world."

Having opened the scoring at Bramall Lane, Christian Eriksen netted again on 88 minutes to spare Tottenham the anguish of extra time, after a double from Che Adams levelled up the tie.

The showpiece at Wembley will represent a repeat of the 2008 final, which Spurs won 2-1.
