David Moyes sacked by Real Sociedad after one year in charge

David Moyes is sacked as manager of Real Sociedad after one year in charge.

Real Sociedad have sacked manager David Moyes after just one year in charge of the Spanish club.

There were reports over the weekend that the Scotsman, who lasted just 10 months as Manchester United boss, would be relieved of his duties following a 29% win percentage since taking over.

After being appointed in November last year, Moyes guided the team to 12th in the La Liga table, but it has been a poor campaign this season as the club are currently in the relegation zone, two points above bottom-placed Levante.

Sociedad released a statement this afternoon confirming that Moyes has left the club, three days after their 2-0 defeat to Las Palmas.

The club said: "Real Sociedad has taken the decision to rescind the contract of first team coach David Moyes. His assistant Billy McKinlay has also been relieved from his position at the club.

"Real Sociedad would like to thank David Moyes and Billy McKinlay for the professional conduct, commitment and dedication which they showed during their roles in the running of the first team. At the same time, we would like to wish them all the best in their future ventures, both professional and personal."

In 11 league games, Sociedad won just two, drew three and lost six.
