Iker Casillas: 'I could play until I'm 40'

Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas insists that he has no plans to retire.

Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas has claimed that he is still some way off hanging up his boots.

The Spanish international's long-term future at Los Blancos is in doubt following a difficult 18 months at the club.

Last season, the veteran was purely Real Madrid's cup goalkeeper, with Diego Lopez picked for the league matches.

The stopper has regained the gloves this season, but high-profile errors for club and country have led to calls for retirement. Casillas, however, has insisted that is the last thing on his mind.

"There's always speculation but after all the stories, the rumours, I'm still here. There's never been a chance for me to go anywhere else because I've never thought about it," he told The Guardian.

"All the presidents I've had have said: 'The day you don't want to be here, just come and tell me.' And I'm still here. It started here and I want it to finish here.

"I think I can play until I'm 40. I feel fit and strong. If your head and body are fine, you can do it. And if you're happy, if you have got a target, you never have a reason to go anywhere else."

Keylor Navas has been forced to play second fiddle to Casillas at Madrid thus far this season.
