Ian Harte admits that Reading are not prepared to settle for second place in the race for promotion to the Premier League.

Reading defender Ian Harte has claimed that his side will not settle for second place in the Championship this season.

Harte and his teammates will face league leaders Southampton on Friday but admits that his side are determined to finish above Nigel Adkins's side at the end of the season.

The former Leeds United full-back said: "It's nice to get promoted and have a medal hanging around your neck.

"We want to get into the Premier League and we have put ourselves in a great position but ultimately we want to go for first place.

"Friday is a massive game for both of us."

Brian McDermott's team have taken 15 points from the last 18 available to them.
