Lee Johnson describes Charlie MacDonald as "ruthless" after the striker plays a starring role in Oldham Athletic's win against Shrewsbury Town.

Lee Johnson has praised Charlie MacDonald after the striker's performance in Tuesday night's 2-1 win against Shrewsbury Town.

Oldham Athletic were trailing 1-0 to Gozie Ugwu's early goal, before MacDonald pounced just before half time. He then set up Danny Philliskirk for the winner with 15 minutes left.

"Charlie will always cause a problem and actually his movement's fantastic," Johnson is quoted as saying on

"It was a really good finish and we knew that was going to happen and we knew we would get at least one chance for him.

"He's just ruthless, clinical in that area. I was delighted for him to put that in."

The win lifted Oldham to 14th in League One.
