Newcastle United are reportedly keen to open talks with Hatem Ben Arfa over the possibility of signing a new contract.

Newcastle United are reportedly poised to hold talks with Hatem Ben Arfa over the possibility of signing a new contract at St James' Park.

The North-East outfit failed to secure any permanent signings during the summer window following the arrival of Joe Kinnear as director of football.

However, it appears that the club are keen to tie down their key players by scheduling discussions with Ben Arfa's representatives, according to the Northern Echo.

Ben Arfa, who joined the Magpies in 2011, has one year remaining on his current deal.
