New Newcastle United owners reportedly target Lucien Favre, Steven Gerrard and Brendan Rodgers as possible replacements for current manager Steve Bruce.

The new Newcastle United owners have reportedly targeted Lucien Favre, Brendan Rodgers and Steven Gerrard as possible replacements for current manager Steve Bruce.

Following the successful takeover by a Saudi-led consortium on Thursday, rumours quickly began to swirl around the departure of Bruce, with the new hierarchy expected to part ways with the 60-year-old before the Magpies return to action against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

According to the Daily Mail, financier Amanda Staveley and her advisers are now considering Favre, Rangers manager Gerrard and Leicester City boss Rodgers as possible replacements at St. James' Park.

Favre has been without a job since his departure from Borussia Dortmund in December 2020, while Gerrard is currently involved in a title defence after inspiring Rangers to win the Scottish Premiership for the first time in 10 years last season.

Rodgers find himself under some rumoured pressure at the King Power Stadium, with the Foxes currently sat in 13th spot in the Premier League, but, after his exploits in the last two seasons, achieving consecutive fifth-placed finishes and winning the FA Cup last term, the Northern Irish boss is considered an attractive option by Newcastle.

Having not won any of their opening seven league games of the season, the Magpies occupy 19th spot in the top flight with just three points.
