Slovenian teenager Haris Vuckic expresses his delight at his performance during his first Premier League start last night.

Haris Vuckic has said that he was pleased with his performance in his first Premier League start against West Bromwich Albion last night.

The Slovenian was selected by Alan Pardew because of Yohan Cabaye's one-game suspension and he featured heavily in the 3-2 loss, striking the underside of the crossbar with a stinging first-half shot before forcing a flying save from Ben Foster after the break.

"I got the chance, I did my maximum," the 19-year-old told BBC Newcastle.

"I proved to the fans, gaffer, family that I can do it as it was a big sacrifice to come here from Slovenia."

Magpies boss Pardew admitted that Vuckic did impress and is expecting bigger and better things in the future.

"Haris had some nice moments tonight," he said.

"He showed the Geordie fans he's going to be a good player."

The loss saw the Tyneside club fall further off the pace of the top clubs, they now lie 17 points adrift of Manchester City.
