Jack Colback: 'We can only focus on ourselves'

Newcastle United midfielder Jack Colback insists that his side have to do their utmost to concentrate on their football rather than the club's search for a new manager.

Newcastle United midfielder Jack Colback has stressed that the squad can only focus on themselves rather than worrying about who their new manager will be.

Alan Pardew left the Magpies last week to join Crystal Palace, leaving John Carver in temporary charge of the club.

Since the 53-year-old's departure, Newcastle have failed to register a win as they crashed out of the FA Cup at the hands of Leicester City before suffering a 2-0 defeat against Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday.

"As players we don't have any say in that, we don't have any impact on that so we've just kind of got to sit back and concentrate on the football side of it," Colback told Sky Sports News.

"The scenario is pretty similar even though the manager has gone. The coaching staff are still there and the all the other staff are still here so it's not too different to when Alan was manager so we need to just concentrate on playing.

"It's never a good thing when you don't know what's happening, also for the fans as well – they want to know what's happening but maybe the club hasn't come to a decision yet."

Newcastle's hierarchy have reportedly outlined a five-man shortlist to replace Pardew at the club, with Remi Garde among the names being linked to St James' Park.
