Saturday's Major League Soccer predictions including New York City vs. Philadelphia Union

Sports Mole provides score predictions and previews for all of today's Major League Soccer fixtures, including New York City vs. Philadelphia Union.

Montreal vs. Inter Miami (Sunday, 12.30am)

CF Montreal forward Chinonso Offor (9) is escorted off the field by medical staff after an injury on May 13, 2023© Reuters

Over a month after these two teams completed a blockbuster deal near the end of the previous transfer window, CF Montreal and Inter Miami will meet on Saturday at Saputo Stadium.

As it stands right now, both teams are outside the MLS playoff picture after Le CFM were beaten 2-1 by the New York Red Bulls last weekend, dropping below the Herons via goal difference with the latter losing their previous league fixture 3-1 versus Orlando City.

We say: CF Montreal 2-0 Inter Miami

The Herons are struggling to find a spark from anywhere, while the additions of Lassiter and Duke to Montreal seem to have been the missing link for them when it comes to connecting passes from the midfield to the attack.

While neither have played exceptionally well domestically of late, we are giving the home side the edge because they seem to have more depth and creativity, while losing Gregore has made Miami far too easy to get through in the midfield.

New England vs. Chicago Fire (Sunday, 12.30am)

New England Revolution head coach Bruce Arena reacts on May 9, 2023© Reuters

New England Revolution will be seeking to end a run of three games without a win when they host the Chicago Fire at the Gillette Stadium on Sunday.

The visitors got back to winning ways in midweek in the US Open Cup, after sharing the spoils with Atlanta United last weekend in a thrilling encounter in Major League Soccer.

We say: New England Revolution 2-0 Chicago Fire

Despite their recent form, New England Revolution have been one of the most dominant teams in the Eastern Conference this season.

Chicago have struggled on the road in recent weeks, so we think that the Revs will put an end to their winless streak here.

NY City vs. Philadelphia (Sunday, 12.30am)

New York City FC head coach Nick Cushing reacts on May 13, 2023© Reuters

In a rematch of the past two Eastern Conference Finals, New York City FC can end a five-match winless run in all competitions when they welcome the Philadelphia Union to Citi Field on Saturday.

The Pigeons have fallen out of the playoff picture following a 1-1 draw versus Orlando City, while Philly have points in six straight MLS encounters, beating the New England Revolution 3-0 last weekend.

We say: New York City FC 1-2 Philadelphia Union

The Union appear to be hitting their stride, while New York are trying to get their groove back, and although the home side have more individual quality to boast, continuity can often be a determining factor, something the Union have in abundance.

Orlando City vs. Atlanta (Sunday, 12.30am)

Orlando City SC head coach Oscar Pareja on April 16, 2023© Reuters

Orlando City will look to make it back-to-back wins for the first time this season when they host Atlanta United at the Exploria Stadium on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the visitors are looking to win their first away game in Major League Soccer since March.

We say: Orlando City 1-1 Atlanta United

Both sides are in similar veins of form, so we do not think there will be a great deal to separate the sides on Sunday.

Orlando have been poor at home this season, while Atlanta are on a six-game winless run on the road, so we think the sides will share the spoils.

Toronto vs. DC United (Sunday, 12.30am)

Toronto FC head coach Bob Bradley on May 9, 2023© Reuters

With frustrations boiling over in Toronto, the Reds return to BMO Field on Saturday searching for a spark when hosting DC United on matchday 15 of the MLS campaign.

TFC have dropped five successive fixtures in all competitions after losing 1-0 at Austin FC, while the Black and Red are unbeaten in their last three domestic encounters, downing the Los Angeles Galaxy 3-0 last Saturday.

We say: Toronto 2-0 DC United

Since 2015, DC have only captured one away match at BMO Field, and their defence have left Miller hanging out to dry too much this season, so although the Reds seem to have their issues, we believe they will be able to expose the visitors' weak backline on Saturday.

Houston vs. Austin (Sunday, 1.30am)

Houston Dynamo will be looking to build on their Open Cup victory in midweek when they host Austin FC at Shell Energy Stadium in MLS on Saturday evening.

The hosts put a wounded Minnesota United to the sword to advance to the last eight of the cup last time out, whilst Austin were not as successful, losing at home to Chicago Fire.

We say: Houston Dynamo 2-1 Austin FC

Houston will be high on confidence after their Open Cup victory in the week, especially when considering Baird managed to score a hat-trick - something that could help take the goalscoring burden off Bassi.

Austin will be desperate to get back to winning ways after being knocked out of the cup in midweek, but we envisage a tricky Saturday at Shell Energy Stadium for the Verde and Black.

Minnesota Utd vs. Salt Lake (Sunday, 1.30am)

Minnesota United will be looking for some home comforts after a heavy away defeat when they host Real Salt Lake at Allianz Field in MLS on Saturday evening.

The Loons were hit for four with no reply by Houston Dynamo last time out, while Salt Lake have been busy handing Colorado Rapids back-to-back losses over the past week.

We say: Minnesota United 2-1 Real Salt Lake

Minnesota were dumped out of the Open Cup in midweek by Houston but were playing with 10 men for the majority of the contest - Heath's side will be desperate to respond with a league win on Saturday.

Real Salt Lake's travels continue after successive wins at Colorado, and we believe the effects of their busy timetable will lead to a less-than-optimal performance in Saint Paul.

St Louis City vs. Vancouver (Sunday, 1.30am)

A pair of Western Conference sides who made big statements last weekend will clash for the first time in the MLS regular-season as the Vancouver Whitecaps head to CityPark on Saturday to face St Louis City.

In their previous encounter, St Louis snapped a three-match winless run in league play by hammering their state rivals Sporting Kansas City 4-0, while the Caps knocked the Seattle Sounders out of firs place in the west with a 2-0 victory at BC Place Stadium.

We say: St Louis City 2-1 Vancouver Whitecaps

The Caps have fought hard in their road fixtures this season but have yet to find a way to kill a game off, which has proven costly.

Should Klauss return to the lineup, it would be a tremendous boost for St Louis, but even if he does not, they look a more confident side at home, and we believe they will get the job done on Saturday.

Colorado vs. Cincinnati (Sunday, 2.30am)

Colorado Rapids head coach Robin Fraser reacts on April 15, 2023© Reuters

Major League Soccer Eastern Conference leaders FC Cincinnati will make the trip to DSG Park on Sunday, aiming to continue their impressive start to the campaign.

Meanwhile, Colorado Rapids will be hoping to secure three points to start pushing themselves up the Western Conference, where they currently sit 12th.

We say: Colorado Rapids 0-2 FC Cincinnati

Colorado Rapids have struggled this season, particularly in home matches, which is why the visitors should be able to take a comfortable three points in this match.

LA Galaxy vs. Charlotte FC (Sunday, 3.30am)

Los Angeles Galaxy will be aiming to lift themselves off the foot of the Major League Soccer Western Conference when they host Charlotte FC on Sunday.

The visitors currently sit midtable in the Eastern Conference and come into this game on the back of being knocked out of the US Open Cup.

We say: Los Angeles Galaxy 0-2 Charlotte FC

LA Galaxy have been having a very tough season and despite getting a win in midweek, this is going to be a hard task to follow this time around.

Earthquakes vs. Dallas (Sunday, 3.30am)

Avoiding a third defeat in a row will be the target for San Jose Earthquakes when they play host to Dallas at the Paypal Park on Sunday morning.

On the other hand, the visitors make the journey aiming to return to winning ways having had to settle for a share of the spoils last time out.

We say: San Jose Earthquakes 2-1 Dallas

Both teams have been far from solid at the back this season, so we expect neither of them to come away with a clean sheet. That said, we are tipping the hosts to narrowly secure all three points in the end.

Seattle vs. NY Red Bulls (Sunday, 3.30am)

Fresh off the back of crashing out of the US Open Cup, New York Red Bulls take a trip to Lumen Field to square off against Seattle Sounders in the MLS on Saturday.

While the Sounders are currently on a run of two back-to-back defeats, they could regain top spot in the Western Conference table with all three points this weekend.

We say: Seattle Sounders 2-2 New York Red Bulls

Barring Thursday's cup exit, New York Red Bulls have enjoyed a superb start to life under 39-year-old manager Lesesne and will be looking to quickly bounce back. However, they will most likely struggle to claim all three points given their struggles on the road and the Sounders' home record in this fixture.
