Marcelo Bielsa: 'We believed until the final whistle'

Marcelo Bielsa praises his players for their belief following a last-gasp 2-1 victory at Caen, which extends their lead at the top of Ligue 1 to five points.

Marseille manager Marcelo Bielsa has praised the belief of his side after they beat Caen 2-1 in dramatic circumstances yesterday.

Alaixys Romao put Bielsa's side ahead with 16 minutes remaining, but Yrondu Musavu-King looked to have given the hosts a share of the spoils with his equaliser six minutes from time.

However, Ligue 1's top goalscorer Andre-Pierre Gignac pounced in injury time to hand Marseille victory, which means that they enter the international break on the back of seven successive league wins.

After the final whistle, Bielsa hailed the self-belief shown by his players to win the game late on, despite conceding a leveller in the closing stages.

"The equaliser we conceded near the end placed doubt in the minds, but the team believed in our chances right up until the final whistle," Bielsa is quoted as saying by FourFourTwo.

"We attacked well all game and created 15 chances.

"It was a tough win as we allowed them to approach our goal and have chances they didn't deserve given the way the match went."

The win means that Marseille are currently five points clear of second-placed Bordeaux in Ligue 1 after nine games.
