Bryan Robson urges David de Gea to give Manchester United one more season

Bryan Robson urges goalkeeper David de Gea to give Manchester United one more season before signing for Real Madrid.

Former Manchester United captain Bryan Robson has called on goalkeeper David de Gea to give the club one more season before leaving for Real Madrid.

The Spaniard has been heavily linked with a switch to the La Liga giants, but so far, officials at Old Trafford have reportedly refused to fall to Real's demands.

After manager Louis van Gaal revealed that he left De Gea out of the team for last weekend's 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur because he was not in the right frame of mind, rumours have been rife that the shot-stopper is on his way out of the club.

However, Robson has suggested that the 24-year-old should emulate of Cristiano Ronaldo, who delayed a move to Madrid by a season before signing for the Spanish giants in a then-world-record deal worth £80m.

"You have to be a professional about it," The Express quotes Robson as saying. "He's under contract at the moment but it's like the Ronaldo situation. The club weren't prepared to release him for another year and he had to get his head round it.

"Ronaldo went about it in a professional way, had a great season for us then got what he said was a dream move. If that's the case and that's what David has to do, then that's what David has to do."

De Gea will become a free agent next summer.
