Nemanja Matic urges Manchester United to open contract talks

Nemanja Matic insists that he wants to stay at Manchester United beyond the end of the current season.

Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic has insisted that he wants to stay at Old Trafford beyond the end of the 2019-20 campaign.

The 31-year-old will see his current deal expire this summer, although the Red Devils do have the option of activating a 12-month extension.

The Serbia international struggled for minutes in the early stages of the season but injuries to Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay have seen him become a key player for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side in recent weeks.

Matic has urged the 20-time English champions to open talks over a new deal as he would prefer to stay in Manchester than seek pastures new despite a host of interest.

"I'm at Carrington every day and open to talk if they think I can help," The Mirror quotes Matic as saying. "There have been no talks. Of course I want to stay. It's a pleasure to represent this club.

"I came here to win and I'll give my best to win trophies. I can't tell you who is asking for me, but when you play for Manchester United, many clubs are looking to sign you.

"That's not only me, it's for every player – especially when you're out of contract. My first option is Manchester United, but if they decide something else then there are always solutions."

Matic will be suspended for Saturday's Premier League clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers having been sent off against Manchester City in the EFL Cup on Wednesday night.
