Manchester United make plans to move for Sporting Lisbon's 20-year-old central defender Goncalo Inacio in the upcoming summer transfer window, according to a report.

Manchester United have made plans to move for Sporting Lisbon's 20-year-old central defender Goncalo Inacio in the upcoming summer transfer window, according to a report.

The Red Devils are said to be interested in reinforcing several areas of the pitch in the transfer market when Erik ten Hag takes charge ahead of the 2022-23 campaign.

The 52-year-old is said to be on the lookout for a left-back, central midfielder and a central defender in particular, with Correio da Manha reporting that Inacio fits the bill for the latter position.

After breaking into the first team for the Lisbon side last season, Inacio has gone on to make 67 appearances for the club, helping his side to the Primeira Liga title last year, as well as three domestic cups.

The report outlines how the Portugal Under-21s international would cost around £38.5m, with four years still remaining on his current deal with Sporting.

Should he move to the Premier League with United, Inacio would look to compete with the likes of Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Raphael Varane in Ten Hag's side.
